Sales Agent: Pelican Real Estate and Development Co. (1/15/2002 - present)
4039 E. County 30-A
Seagrove Beach, FL 32459

I began as a real estate agent in January 2002. My broker felt that my teaching career prepared me very well for selling real estate. It is a complicated process and it helps to be able to take a buyer or seller through all the necessary steps to close a deal. I hit the ground running and soon found myself in the top 1.5% of all the agents along the Emerald Coast. My newsletter "News from the Beach" attracted quite a few readers and was forwarded to friends and colleagues. My customers were and are lovely people. It has been a pleasure to help them buy and sell. Now that the market has slowed down quite a bit, I find myself enjoying what comes to me, but also branching out into other fields, such as the writing described on this site.

Teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Technique (10/1/96-9/1/2003)
I became a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Technique in June 1992 and taught it El Paso, TX for about six months. At that point I joined the faculty of Maharishi International University and taught TM only sporadically, with the exception of stint in Armenia following an earthquake there in 1989. During a several months stay there I taught over 1000 people the technique for no charge. They benefited enormously, as did I. Upon leaving the University in October 1996, I started a TM center in Seagrove Beach, FL --the Emerald Coast TM Center -- and with my husband taught hundreds of people, offered weekend residence courses, hosted advanced techniques in the TM program, and all the activities accompanying those events. Once I became active in Real Estate I turned those activities over to other teachers and focussed on my new career, which was a financial necessity.

Professor and Chair, Department of Literature and Languages, Maharishi University of Management (formerly Maharishi International University) (1/1/73-10/1/96)
I created and taught courses in Classical Literature, Medieval Literature, Romantic Literature, Willa Cather, the modern novel, to name a few. I also made video tapes of some of my lectures and presented papers at various conferences (see my page on my academic activities). I also directed the B.A. in Literature, the M.A. in Literature and minors in French and Spanish, a theatre program, and a program in creative writing. I also served as Dean of the Faculty and on various committees. I was selected as Best Teacher of the Year on several occasions and was a favorite speaker at campus events and visitors' weekends.

International Vice-President, Maharishi International University (1976-1977)
With my husband, David Orme-Johnson, I represented the University at the International level, bringing University questions and concerns to that level and returning advice and suggestions to the University, as well as sending new knowledge and video tapes for the use of the University.
